'Experienced, hardworking' Naidu can serve public immensely: BJP
New Delhi/ Kolkata [India], July 18 (ANI): With Venkaiah Naidu announced as the NDA's vice presidential candidate, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday said the former union minister will do an "immensely good job" and justice to the post. BJP leader Nalin Kohli told ANI that Venkaiah Naidu is going to be the first such candidate for the vice president's election who is born after 1947 and will give enormous service to the public with his experience. "Venkaiah Naidu is an eminent public personality, a senior political leader, born as a farmer, worked as a farmer, worked his way through hard work through various positions to one day become the president of the Bharatiya Janata Party. Also been at position from literally the panchayat to the parliament, he is going to be the first such candidate for the vice president's election who is born after 1947, that means an independent India, and will give enormous service to the public with his experience," he added. Kohli further emphasized that Naidu will be able to bring out the value the vice president of India can and also in functioning as the chairperson of the Rajya Sabha. Toeing similar sentiments, another BJP leader Rahul Sinha strongly backed Venkaiah Naidu as the right candidate for the post of the vice- president. "Naidu is a well-deserved candidate. Prime Minister Modi has tried to balance the political equations between North and South, as Ram Nath Kovind ji is from the north India and Naidu ji is from south India. This north-south combination, which the Prime Minister Modi has introduced, we salute him for this," he added. Naidu has been pitted against Opposition's candidate Gopal Krishna Gandhi who had already filed his nominations. Naidu will now file his nomination papers tomorrow. A prominent leader of the BJP, he has served as its national president from 2002 to 2004. Both as a student leader and political figure, Naidu gained prominence as a brilliant orator, who vigorously championed the cause of the farmers and the development of backward areas. His oratory skills and political activism propelled his political career and he was elected as an MLA to the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly twice from Udayagiri constituency in Nellore district in 1978 and 1983. He rose to become one of the most popular leaders of the BJP in Andhra Pradesh. After having served in various organisational posts of the BJP at the state and national level, he was elected as a member of the Rajya Sabha from Karnataka in 1998. He has since been re-elected twice in 2004 and 2010 from Karnataka. (ANI)
