'Dressing up' like a farmer doesn't mean Rahul Gandhi understands their pain: BJP
New Delhi [India], Sept. 7 (ANI): Taking a swipe at Congress vice-president Rahul Gandhi over his 'Kisan yatra', the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday said getting dressed like a farmer and sitting on a cot (Khaat) does not show that he understands the pain of the poor. BJP spokesperson Sambit Patra told ANI that as far as Rahul Gandhi is concerned, he is a "child born with a silver spoon" and today by sitting on a cot (Khaat) he cannot become one of the poor and needy. "To understand the poor and to understand their pain, did he even for one day lead a life of a poor? He is the one who spends his holiday in Europe and here by getting dressed like a farmer and by acting like them he cannot become like them. He should remember that these farmers will give the Congress a befitting reply," he added. He further said that this is not about 2500 km yatra, it is a 65 years old yatra which the grand old party have started. "From Nehru to Rahul Gandhi's grandmother Indira Gandhi, to his father Rajiv Gandhi to his mother Sonia Gandhi, everyone talked about 'garibi hatao', they raised slogans about farmers but nothing happened. ..Now he can take out as many yatras as possible but the country knows it is the Congress Party that is responsible for their agony," he added. Yesterday, Gandhi reached Rudrapur via chopper and launched the party's door-to-door campaign. He began his 2500 km-long 'Kisan Yatra' as an effort to reach out to the people of Uttar Pradesh. He reached out to the farming community while cornering the Centre and Samajwadi Party Government for not addressing their concerns despite making tall claims. "Day1 of the Kisan Yatra ends in Gorakhpur. Tremendous energy and support from the people throughout the journey today.Looking fwd to tomorrow!," Rahul said in a tweet. The Congress vice-president had earlier said his yatra is aimed at helping the poor, farmers and labourers secure their rights. The "Khat Sabha" with Uttar Pradesh farmers took a dramatic turn when all the local supporters began decamping with the "khats" (Cots) from the venue that had been laid out by his party. There was unprecedented ruckus and commotion at the ground in Deoria, where the rally was held, after which people started fighting over the cots to take them home. (ANI)
