'Anti-Romeo' squad: Areas near temples, colleges, bus stops under radar
Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], Mar 22 (ANI): After Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath swore to protect women in the state and launched 'Anti-Romeo' squads to check on eve-teasing in public areas, Additional Director general of police (ADG) Daljeet Choudhary on Wednesday stated similar views to protect women from getting eve teased or molested. "Idea is to protect women from getting eve teased or molested. We have prepared teams who will visit places near colleges, schools, market areas, bus stops, malls, parks and other public places," Choudhary told ANI. Choudhary further stated that strict action will be taken against those who will stalk and harass women. "If any case of harassment is found, strict action will be taken and a surprise check has been produced in many cities," said Chaudhary. Earlier in the day, Director General of Police (DGP) Javeed Ahmed along with Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath launched the Anti-Romeo squads saying that safety of women is the sole intent of the squads, no moral policing. Adityanath had directed the state police to adopt a zero tolerance towards crime and take immediate steps towards improving law and order in the state. Later in the day, Adityanath also ordered to shut down of illegal slaughter houses and also banned the use of pan masala and tobacco in the government premises in the state. The BJP manifesto for the assembly polls had said that all illegal slaughter houses would be closed and there would be a blanket ban on all mechanised slaughter houses. After being assigned the charge of India's most politically-crucial state, Adityanath assured that Uttar Pradesh would soon be considered as the supreme state in the country. Earlier, on Monday, the priest-turned-politician directed all state government officers to declare their income and assets (moveable and immovable) within 15 days. He had ordered all his ministers to do the same after being sworn-in as the Chief Minister on Sunday. (ANI)
