'Anti-Modi' Mamata should be anti-black money, says BJP
New Delhi [India], Nov.16 (ANI): The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) said Wednesday that West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is only interested in ousting Prime Minister Narendra Modi because he wants to end the menace of black money and corruption, and has never resisted nor opposed any illegal or anti-social activities. "Mamata is famous for opposing everything. But Mamata never opposes chit fund companies like Saradha and Narada (scam) who looted people's money. She has never been opposed to the fake currency racket; she has never opposed the drug and liquor mafia. Mamata only opposes the Prime Minister who wants to eradicate black money and corruption. She never listens and is bent on ousting Prime Minister Modi," BJP general secretary Shrikant Sharma told ANI. Banerjee is set to join the opposition in meeting President Pranab Mukherjee today over the Centre's demonetisation scheme. Speaking to the media here after arriving in the national capital yesterday, she said she would convey to the President as to what is on the minds of the people. TMC spokesperson Derek O'Brien told ANI that Mamata and leaders of other parties will meet the President at 1.30 p.m. today. "We are against black money for sure. But we are also against the way the public is being tortured and harassed. Agriculture sector, labourers, housewives, teachers, government job holders all are in dangers. All small scale markets are done for," Mamata said. The Trinamool Congress chief also questioned the government as to why there wasn't a proper plan put in place before going ahead with the scheme. Lok Sabha speaker Sumitra Mahajan expressed hope that there will be a healthy discussion on various issues during the Winter Session. She said that members of various parties have demanded a discussion on various issues, including demonetisation of high value notes. Prime Minister Modi, however, told the NDA allies that there was no need to be defensive on the government's decision as there is widespread support for it and people are ready to face hardships for larger gains. He urged NDA allies to go to the public and explain the long-term benefits of demonetisation in curbing corruption and black money. (ANI)
