Guwahati (Assam) [India], January 27 (ANI): Union Minister Sarbananda Sonowal underlined the contribution of the revered king of Kamrup, Maharaj Prithu, and described his heroics in thwarting the advance of Afghan invader Bakhtiyar Khilji, the destroyer of the great Nalanda Vishwavidyalaya.
Sonowal described Maharaj Prithu as 'the symbol of courage, valour and a source of inspiration for Asomiya.' Sonowal was speaking at an event after inaugurating the Students Hostel at Hajongbori, Chandrapur, in Guwahati on Saturday.
The hostel was built under the Bharati Multipurpose Educational Project after it received untied funds as well as from the MP Development Fund. Sonowal also asked the students to learn from our glorious past and imbibe it in the modern context to build a smart society.
Sarbananda Sonowal, while addressing the gathering, said that a healthy "interaction between smart teachers and smart students will shape up a smart society."
Sonowal said, "Under the glorious leadership of Maharaj Prithu, the king of Kamrup, an inspiring assault was led against the incoming invasion of Afghan invader Bakhtiyar Khilji, who destroyed the world-famous cradle of learning, Nalanda University. Thanks to the grit, determination, courage, valour, & military strategic genius of Maharaj Prithu, Khilji's was thrashed and pushed back, ensuring the glory and respect of Assam and the Northeast."
"Maharaj Prithu is the source of inspiration and a symbol of courage and valour for the people of Assam. I feel deeply humbled to be here today when this student's hostel, named after this great son of Assam in his memory, is being inaugurated under the Vidya Bharti Multipurpose Educational Project. Vidya Bharati aims to provide quality education, ensuring adequate support to all students. I firmly believe that this project will help students acquire quality education and facilitate a journey of rapid knowledge exploration."
He further added, "The education imparted by the schools under Vidya Bharati is shaping the students with the Indian value system towards becoming a complete human resource for the country. Prime Minister Modi ji has always encouraged the promotion of the education system, ingrained with the Indian value system, for the promotion of quality education. The interaction between smart teachers and smart students will shape a smart society."
"With this vision of Modi ji, the National Education Policy has been formulated to usher in a new age of learning and knowledge movement. I call upon the students to take this opportunity and move towards building a strong, self-reliant, and proud India. We must build temples of ideas with education. Our dynamic demography as well as our vibrant democracy are our two strongest assets. The youth have to play a key role in realising the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat," he added. (ANI)
