"You are not letting discussion happen": Amit Shah targets opposition in RS over Manipur debate demand

New Delhi [India], August 7 (ANI): Home Minister Amit Shah on Monday targeted Opposition in the Rajya Sabha saying that they are not letting discussion on Manipur issue happen while he is ready.
While speaking on the Delhi Services Bill, Amit Shah said that he is ready for discussion on Manipur adding that the Centre has nothing to hide. He further said that if Leader of Opposition in Rajya Sabha Mallikarjun Kharge agrees to discuss the issue on August 11 then he is also ready.
"I am ready for discussion on Manipur...We have nothing to hide. You (The opposition) are the ones who have something to hide that you are not letting discussion happen...If Kharge Ji says yes to a discussion on August 11, then I am also ready for it", Amit Shah said.
Earlier today, the Supreme Court said that it proposes to pass order that there will be 42 Special Investigation Teams (SIT) to look into cases in connection with Manipur violence which have not been transferred to Central Bureau of Investgation (CBI).
A Bench headed by Chief Justice of India DY Chandrachud said cases have been transferred to the CBI, but to ensure faith in the rule of law, it is proposing to direct that there shall be five officers of rank at least Deputy SP who will be brought into CBI from various states.
SITs already probing matters which are not transferred to CBI will supervsed by six DIG level officers brought from outside Manipur.
The top court said it contemplates to appoint a committee of three former High Court judges which will look into the investigation, relief, remedial measures, compensation, rehabilitation, etc.
The apex court was hearing issue relating to the video from Manipur where two women were paraded naked and a batch of petitions relating to the ethnic violence which has been going on in the State since May.
Manipur had been on the boil for the last three months after ethnic clashes broke out between two tribal communities Meities and Kukis, when the Manipur High Court asked the state government to consider adding one of the communities to the list of Scheduled Tribes. (ANI)
