Yechury blames RSS-BJP for Tripura scribe's murder, compares it with Lankesh's murder

New Delhi [India], September 21 (ANI): Communist Party of India (Marxist) (CPM) general secretary Sitaram Yechury has likened the murder of a journalist in Tripura to that of Gauri Lankesh and said that it was a tactic the Rashtriya Swayamsevak Sangh (RSS)-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is employing so that the truth doesn't reach people.

While condemning the attacks, Yechury said, "Gauri Lankesh's murder in Karnataka, where elections are due and now Santanu Bhowmik's murder in Tripura, where elections are due. This is a pattern that the RSS-BJP are employing in order to silence progressive journalists so that the truth doesn't reach people."

While condemning the attacks, Yechury accused the BJP backed - Indigenous Peoples Front of Tripura (IPFT) for the murder.

Earlier on Wednesday, Santanu Bhowmik, a journalist, was hacked to death, while covering the clashes between the IPFT and the Tripura Upajati Gan Mukti Parishad (TUGMP) in Mandwai of West Tripura, following which the state government ordered an inquiry into it.

The internet and data services were also suspended in Agartala on Thursday. (ANI)
