Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], Aug 28 (ANI): The Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) will be wiped in 2019 before imposing National Register of Citizens (NRC) in West Bengal, claimed state's Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Tuesday.
Banerjee's comments came while addressing Trinamool Chhatra Parishad(TMCP) foundation day in Kolkata. TMCP is the student wing of the Trinamool Congress (TMC).
Alleging a conspiracy to divide the country, the West Bengal Chief Minister said, "If BJP dares to touch Bengal, they will understand what Bengal is made of. We have raised our voice for Assam and will continue to do the same if NRC is imposed in Bengal."
She also raised questions on increasing number of Non-Performing Assets and said that NPA's has become more under the BJP-ruled central government as compared to past regime.
Banerjee also talked of demonetisation and fuel price hikes and claimed that while 'money value has gone down, the violence has increased'.
Issuing a scathing attack on BJP, she said, "BJP will not decide whom I will worship or what will I eat. This is not an emergency but a super emergency. They are planning to change the name of Red Fort."
Banerjee also blamed the BJP for disrespecting former prime minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and said, "We respect Atal Ji, but see what they are doing with his ashes. Instead of paying their tribute, they are only disrespecting the man. Such acts can't be tolerated."
The West Bengal Chief Minister also criticized the BJP for allegedly misusing the central agencies against opposition leaders and said, "The leaders from Bharatiya Janta Party (BJP) are saying that that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Income Tax Department (IT) must be used to target opposition leaders. They say, even if there is no proof, the TMC must be troubled or the Congress must be troubled. BJP is asking to disturb different political leaders like Kumaraswamy, Chandrababu Naidu, Mayawati, Akhilesh, MK Stalin, Lalu ji to remain in power. We believe that impartial institutions must work impartially."
Earlier in the day, Banerjee also took to her official Twitter handle to express her thoughts on TMCP foundation day.
"Today is the Foundation Day of Trinamool Chhatra Parishad. Youths and students are the future of the country. My political struggle also began as a student activist. Future leaders of the country will emerge from among students. My best wishes to all," she tweeted. (ANI)
