Women's Day: At Mumbai Metro's all-women station, employees say "proud of the work"

In a unique display of women's empowerment on the occasion of International Women's Day, Akurli Metro Station has become one of the Mumbai Metro's all-women stations. Female employees stated that they felt proud to do their jobs.

Mumbai (Maharashtra) [India], March 8 (ANI): In a unique display of women's empowerment on the occasion of International Women's Day, Akurli Metro Station has become one of the Mumbai Metro's all-women stations. Female employees stated that they felt proud to do their jobs.
Supervisor Customer Relation Management Shilpa Kailash Ahire said, "I am working in the commercial department here. I basically handle the revenue and all the customer complaints. I face challenges and try to improve on them. I am proud of my work. I am currently handling four stations. One of them is an all-women station. A lot of ladies face difficulties that they cannot discuss with male staff and have to be handled emotionally."

She further said that if a women supports another women, then only they can be empowered.
"The station is working in three shifts being run by women," she said.
Metro Station Controller Manisha Rajendra Sawant said, "I work here as the station controller. My main responsibility is to handle the work being carried out at the station. I handle all the activities related to passengers. I feel proud of the work I am doing. This is challenging but not impossible work. Women can handle anything in an efficient way. There is lot of scope for growth here."

Metro Train Operator Nikhita Mahendra Dhanawade said that she felt proud to be a government employee.
She said, "I have been here for the last 5 years. We have a huge role to play as the metro train operator...I am very lucky that I got selected for this work. I joined before Covid. During Covid, we received the training online and offline. We received training in Hyderabad. I am proud of my work and of being a government employee. My responsibility is to transport people to their destination. In case of medical emergency, we try to provide immediate assistance."
Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Saturday paid tribute to 'Nari Shakti,' recognizing the strength and contributions of women on the occasion of International Women's Day.
In a post on X, PM Modi announced that his social media platforms would be taken over by women from diverse fields, showcasing their achievements on the occasion.
"We bow to our Nari Shakti on #WomensDay! Our Government has always worked to empower women, reflecting in our schemes and programmes. Today, as promised, my social media properties will be taken over by women who are making a mark in diverse fields!" the Prime Minister said. (ANI)
