New Delhi [India], September 21 (ANI): Union Minister Arjun Munda said that the Lok Sabha took a historic decision by passing the Women's Reservation Bill on Wednesday and women would get an opportunity to excel in every field once this is implemented.
Union Minister Munda said, "Yesterday, the Lok Sabha took a historic decision. Today, there would be serious discussions on it in the Rajya Sabha. In the leadership of PM Narendra Modi, work was done to give respect to women through different schemes. Now through this 33 per cent reservation, the participation of women as members of Parliament would increase..."
Union Minister Munda said that this was a historic achievement.
"Women in the country would get an opportunity to excel in every field after this is implemented. The demand to include Other Backward Classes (OBC) in the Women's Reservation Bill was part of politics being played," he added.
Earlier, in a historic move, the Vice-President and the Rajya Sabha Chairman Jagdeep Dhankhar on Thursday reconstituted the panel of vice-chairpersons comprising 13 women Rajya Sabha members for the day as the house discussed the Nari Shakti Vandan Adhiniyam Bill, 2023.
The Rajya Sabha Chairman emphasized that the presence of women MPs on the chair would send a powerful message to the world at large and it would symbolize that they held a ‘commanding position’ during this epochal moment of change.
The women Rajya Sabha Members nominated to the panel of vice-chairpersons are P T Usha, Phangnon Konyak, Jaya Bachchan, Saroj Pandey, Rajani Ashokrao Patil, Fauzia Khan, Dola Sen, Indu Bala Goswami, Kanimozhi NVN Somu, Kavita Patidar, Mahua Maji, Kalpana Saini and Sulata Deo. (ANI)
