Will work to resolve issue amicably: Justice (retd) Kalifulla, chairman mediation panel of Ram Janambhoomi-Babri Masjid land dispute

Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], March 8 (ANI): After Supreme Court's Constitution bench referred Ram Janambhoomi-Babri Masjid land dispute case for court-appointed and monitored mediation, the three-member mediation committee chairman Justice (retd) FM Ibrahim Kalifulla said he would make every effort to resolve the issue amicably.

Chennai (Tamil Nadu) [India], March 8 (ANI): After Supreme Court's Constitution bench referred Ram Janambhoomi-Babri Masjid land dispute case for court-appointed and monitored mediation, the three-member mediation committee chairman Justice (retd) FM Ibrahim Kalifulla said he would make every effort to resolve the issue amicably.
Speaking to media, the retired judge of the apex court Kalifulla said, "I understand SC has appointed a mediation committee headed by me. I am yet to receive the order copy. I can say if a committee has been constituted we will take every effort to resolve the issue amicably."
Another member of the mediation committee, spiritual guru Sri Sri Ravi Shankar also took to Twitter and said that all must move together towards the goal of maintaining harmony in the society.
"Respecting everyone, turning dreams to reality, ending long-standing conflicts happily and maintaining harmony in society - we must all move together towards these goals," wrote Ravi Shankar.
Earlier in the day, Supreme Court’s Constitution Bench had referred Ram Janambhoomi-Babri Masjid land dispute case for court-appointed and monitored mediation for a “permanent solution” while imposing a media ban on its coverage.
Justice Kalifulla (retd) will be the chairman, for court-appointed and monitored mediation for a “permanent solution”. The mediation panel will also comprise Sri Sri Ravi Shankar and senior advocate Sriram Panchu.
The court also stated that the mediation proceedings should be held in-camera and the same will be held in Faizabad.
It said that the mediation process should begin in a week and a progress report filed within four weeks. The mediation process will be completed in eight weeks, it said. (ANI)
