Will work for Shimla Rural even if BJP forms govt: Vikramaditya Singh

Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India], Dec 18 (ANI): Congress leader Vikramaditya Singh, who won with a margin of 4,880 votes in the Himachal Pradesh Assembly election, expressed his gratitude to the public of Shimla Rural and vowed to work for the development of the area irrespective of whichever party forms government in the state.

"I thank the public of Shimla Rural who gave me all the love and support in this election. I'll always stand with them regardless of whichever party forms government in the state. We will put forth the issues of this area in front of the government, even if BJP forms government," Vikramaditya told ANI.

This is the first assembly election contested by Vikramaditya, Chief Minister Virbhhadra Singh's son.

While both father and son won in their respective constituencies, the Congress Party has won only 19 seats, while the BJP has won 35 seats so far and is set to win in the 68-member assembly election.

Responding to the party's defeat, and therefore the removal of the party's government in the state, Singh said, "I am disappointed because he (Virbhadra Singh) has brought unprecedented level of development through the Congress Party. We will look into why we could not convert the development in the state into votes, so that such mistakes are not repeated."

"As a son, I am sad we couldn't make it possible for him to become the Chief Minister for the seventh time," he added.

Singh refused to hold anyone responsible for the party's defeat.

"We do not want to blame anyone for this defeat at this moment. We'll analyse our drawbacks in meeting," Singh said. (ANI)
