Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India], July 1 (ANI): BJP leader and MP from Himachal Pradesh, Anurag Thakur, on Tuesday expressed gratitude to the party's leadership for reappointing Dr Rajeev Bindal as the President of the Himachal Pradesh BJP for a third term.
The BJP leader expressed confidence that the party would sweep the next Assembly elections in the state and said, "I thank the national leadership and all BJP workers for once again appointing Dr Rajeev Bindal as the President of Himachal Pradesh BJP. Under his leadership, the party will not only win the next Assembly elections but will do so with a two-thirds majority or more."
The BJP leader also launched a scathing attack on the ruling Congress government in the state, alleging failure in governance and law and order.
Criticising the Congress government in the state, Thakur said it had reduced itself to a "non-performing" administration.
"Today, Himachal Pradesh has a non-functional Congress government that only gives guarantees and then forgets them. Even Congress Ministers are speaking out against their own government because the promises made to the people were never fulfilled," he said.
Adding, he said, "From the state party president to the Chief Minister, the Congress leadership is disconnected from public sentiment. People, including even some in the Congress, want the BJP to return to power in Himachal Pradesh."
Anurag Thakur also responded to the recent incident involving Rural Development and Panchayati Raj Minister Anirudh Singh, who has been booked for allegedly assaulting an NHAI official, and said that it was "deeply shameful."
"What could be more unfortunate than a minister being named in an FIR and an official complaint for assaulting an officer in a closed room and injuring him? Is there even a functioning government in Himachal Pradesh? Or are ministers busy assaulting officers who are only doing their job?" he said.
Thakur also referred to the unresolved Vimal Negi case, which is under CBI investigation, and linked it to the larger issue of officers being under threat in the state.
"The CBI probe in the Vimal Negi case is still ongoing, and now another officer's head has been fractured. Are government officers in Himachal even safe anymore? Will they be driven to suicide? These are serious questions, and the Chief Minister must answer them," Thakur said.
Responding to queries on the Centre's assistance during the ongoing monsoon crisis in Himachal Pradesh, Thakur reaffirmed the Modi government's commitment to support the state.
"Whatever assistance is needed will be provided. Earlier, we helped with the construction of 12,000 houses, and recently, Rs 2,066 crore has already been sanctioned. If NDRF or Army support is needed again, the Centre will step in. We have helped in the past, are helping now, and will continue to help," he assured. (ANI)
