New Delhi [India], July 8 (ANI): After Delhi Lt Governor VK Saxena, directed to keep orders on the transfer of 5,000 teachers in abeyance as an interim measure, Education Minister Atishi said that they will strongly oppose any attempt which is made to stop Delhi's education revolution in the future.
Her remarks came after LG Saxena ordered a temporary halt to the transfer of 5000 Delhi government school teachers.
"On July 2, BJP transferred 5000 government school teachers overnight through its LG. This transfer was done against the order of Delhi's Education Minister. These 5000 teachers were transferred because these are the teachers who have transformed schools in the last ten years along with Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal. These are the teachers, due to whose hard work the government schools of the city are better than private schools today," the AAP leader said on Sunday.
The AAP leader said that they are happy with LG Saxena's order to stop the transfer of teachers and the party will keep fighting for the rights of teachers and the education of Delhi's children.
"But we had promised then that Delhi's Arvind Kejriwal government would not let the schools suffer. We will keep fighting for the rights of teachers and the education of Delhi's children. Today we are happy that BJP, their LG had to stop the transfer of these 5000 teachers. If any attempt is made to stop Delhi's education revolution in the future, we will strongly oppose it," she added.
General Secretary, of the Government Schools Teachers Association of India, Ajay Veer Yadav met LG Saxena on Sunday over the transfer order of school teachers and said the L-G has said that a committee will be formed and the transfer policy will be relooked.
"We met the Delhi L-G today, who has given us a huge relief by staying this order. The L-G said that a committee will be formed and the transfer policy will be relooked," he said.
Raj Niwas Delhi, run by Delhi LG Secretariat, took to its official X handle on Sunday and said, "VK Saxena had received several representations from different government school teacher's Associations and met their delegation today at Raj Niwas."
The post added further, "VK Saxena, is consistently striving for better service conditions for government employees so that they can perform optimally."
It said that Saxena has advised the Chief Secretary and Directorate of Education to take a sympathetic, holistic and fair view into the recent transfer orders about teachers. "He (VK Saxena) has suggested that in the interim, the orders be kept in abeyance."
Earlier, Atishi on July 4 wrote to Chief Secretary Naresh Kumar and directed him to immediately withdraw the transfer order of teachers issued on July 2.
The Delhi Education Minister also asked to immediately hold on to any further compulsory transfer of teachers merely because they have completed 10 years in a particular school.
"Under clause 16 of this circular, all those teachers who have served for more than 10 years in the same schools were directed to compulsorily apply for transfer, failing which, they will be transferred to any school by the DoE," said Atishi, adding that nearly 5,000 teachers who did not apply for any transfer were transferred to other schools invoking this contentious clause.
The Delhi Education Minister also directed the Chief Secretary to Initiate Disciplinary proceedings against the errant officers who willfully defied the direction dated July 1, 2024 concerning the implementation of compulsory transfer of teachers merely because they have completed 10 years in a particular school, and to Initiate Vigilance Inquiry against corruption and malpractice, if any, in the transfer matter of teachers.
