Jind (Haryana) [India], July 28 (ANI): A Khap panchayat held in Jind, Haryana, brought attention to significant social issues, including live-in relationships, same-sex marriage, and love marriages.
The leaders voiced their stance and proposed amendments, highlighting their demands to be raised with the government.
Binain Khap Head, Raghubir Nain, conveyed the Khap's stance, saying, "Khaps are not against love marriages, but parental consent is crucial. Marriages within the same gotra (ancestral lineage) should be prohibited. We also oppose live-in relationships and same-sex marriages." He emphasized their commitment to their cause, stating, "We plan to meet with PM Modi and the Leader of Opposition to advocate for these issues and to pressurize the current government. We will protest if our demands and amendments to the Hindu Code Bill are not addressed."
Khap leader Santosh Dahiya supported these views, highlighting the impact on families and genetic concerns.
She stated that marrying in the same lineage has been proven wrong scientfically too.
"Families are falling apart due to live-in relationships and the law is giving them the right to stay in live-in relationships...Marriage in the same gotra (ancestral lineage) is not only disturbing the social fabric but it also has a genetic problem...Marriage in the same gotra (ancestral lineage) should be banned..."
Earlier this month, Uttarakhand Chief Minister Pushkar Singh Dhami participated in a felicitation ceremony in the national capital for implementing in the State the Uniform Civil Code, which aims among other things towards ensuring the safety of youth in live-in relationships.
CM talked about the provision made for registration regarding live-in relationships. He told ANI that this provision is made to ensure that the parents of the couple are aware of the relationship.

He said "A lot of journalists asked me why has a provision of registration been introduced regarding live-in. I said that provision for registration has been introduced so that their parents know about it."

Dhami said, "Many times when the relationship turns sour and the couple do not share a good bond between them, there have been many cases where murders and other crimes take place".

He said that when these kinds of crimes take place then the parents are left with nothing but only regret.

"Our first priority behind this provision is to ensure the security of the youth who enter into live-in relationships", he said. (ANI)
