New Delhi [India], March 29 (ANI): Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann on Saturday said that he supported the farmers' movement and that he would personally take the farmers for the talks with the Center, which are supposed to be held on May 4.
Speaking at the TV 9 summit, the Punjab CM also said that it was the democratic right of the farmers to protest.
"I totally support the farmer's protest at the Shambu and Khannauri border. Fighting for their rights is everyone's democratic right. I will personally take the farmers to the meeting on May 4 with the Centre...We have dealt with them with love... No lathis or water cannons have been used on them so far," the CM said.
He further stated that the farmers' protest was with the central government and that the borders of Punjab were reopened due to the losses faced.
"The matter of the protest is with the central government. The routes were completely blocked... Punjab had been incurring losses due to the protest, and we had to open the borders. The demand is from the center, so why are the people of Punjab facing the problems?" the CM questioned.
The Punjab Government on Friday told the Supreme Court that it has cleared the protesting farmers from the Shambhu and Khanauri borders near Haryana and farmers' leader Jagjit Singh Dallewal who was on fast unto death also broke his fast.
Speaking on the measures taken to combat the drug problem in the state, Mann said that Punjab has not adopted any bulldozer action but is waging a war against drugs in Punjab.
"We have not adopted any bulldozer action in Punjab as of now. Currently, we are just in a war against the usage of drugs. Ours is a border state, and most of the drugs come from across the border. As per the law, we can take actions against the buildings built with drug money and can demolish buildings of such people," the CM said.
Speaking on the Kunal Kamra controversy, the CM said that there was a thin line of difference between sarcasm and abuse, further stating that patience in the country had decreased.
"See, there is a difference between sarcasm and abuse. Today, patience has decreased in the country... emotions of people flare up on small things. In the earlier days, Raju Srivastava used to mimic Lalu Prasad Yadav.... but today there are fights on these small things. Comedy should be taken as comedy... this should not happen..."
Commenting on OTT platforms, the CM said that people have started using abusive language to gain TRP today.
"Today, TV has broken families. Somehow, people use abusive language to get TRP. Instead of censorship, producers and directors should write meaningful scripts..." (ANI)
