"Will make sure that such incidents don't take place in the future..," Odisha Min Nityananda Gond on Bargarh's self-immolation case

Odisha Minister Nityananda Gond, on the tragic death of a 13-year-old girl from Bargarh, who died after self-immolating, clarified that the incident did not occur in school and the cause remains unclear.

Bhubaneshwar (Odisha) [India], August 12 (ANI): Odisha Minister Nityananda Gond has clarified that the the tragic death of a 13-year-old girl from Bargarh, who died after self-immolating, did not occur in school and the cause remains unclear.
He further emphasised the government's commitment to girls' safety in schools through Internal Complaint Committees and efforts to prevent such incidents in the future.
"The incident did not take place in the school. It happened behind her house. The reason for the same is not yet clear. Our government is working for the girls' safety in the schools. There are Internal Complaint Committees at the school levels... The government will make sure that such incidents don't take place in the future..," he said.
On Monday, a 13-year-old girl died after she allegedly immolated herself in Odisha's Bargarh, police said.
The victim was admitted to a hospital, where she succumbed to her injuries.
"Investigation is going on, and as per law, action will be taken. 3-4 teams have been formed, and interrogation is going on... The girl has died and her postmortem is going on," said Inspector General (Northern Range), Himanshu Lal.
Expressing grief and anguish over the incident, Former Odisha Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik slammed the Bharatiya Janata Party government, alleging that the administration is failing to "create confidence in the system where our daughters feel safe, valued and heard".
Highlighting disturbingly similar incidents, Patnaik noted that four girls have died in similar incidents within a month.
The remarks came after the death of a girl who allegedly died by self-immolation in Kathiapada village of Kendrapara district.
Earlier, a student of FM Autonomous College, Balasore, reportedly set herself on fire. Days later, a minor girl from Balanga in Puri district also allegedly died due to self-immolation. She was airlifted to AIIMS Delhi but succumbed during treatment. (ANI)
