New Delhi [India], February 8 (ANI): Haryana AAP President Sushil Gupta expressed confidence that the AAP will form the government with an absolute majority for the fourth time as the counting of votes takes place on Saturday.
"The public of Delhi trust the work of Arvind Kejriwal, his promises and they love him, " Gupta told ANI on Friday.
Regarding the exit polls, he asked, " What are the (exit polls) indicating. What is the survey showing? What did it showed in 2013, 2015 and 2020 (assembly elections)?" They (exit polls) never showed our government coming to the power. The government was formed three times. It is going to be formed for the fourth time. We will form the government with an absolute majority. And Arvind Kejriwal is going to be the Chief Minister."
The AAP is aiming for a third consecutive term, while the BJP is leaving no stone unturned in its attempt to return to power after more than two decades.
Most exit polls released on Wednesday have given the BJP an edge over the AAP. However, AAP leaders argued that exit polls have consistently underestimated the party's performance in the past. They expressed confidence in returning to power.
Polling for the 70 member assembly was held on February 5.
The BJP's campaign, led by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, targeted the AAP over alleged toxicity in the Yamuna River, while the AAP highlighted its "performance" in education and health during its eleven-year tenure. Congress MP and Leader of the Opposition Rahul Gandhi also criticized Kejriwal in his rallies leading up to the polls.
Key seats include New Delhi, where AAP leader and former Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal is in the fray against Congress leader Sandeep Dikshit and BJP's Parvesh Verma.
Delhi Chief Minister Atishi is facing competition from BJP's Ramesh Bidhuri and Congress candidate Alka Lamba. The campaign witnessed sharp exchanges between leaders of the three parties.
The Congress, which was in power for 15 consecutive years in Delhi, has suffered setbacks in the last two assembly elections and has failed to win any seats.
The AAP dominated the 2020 assembly elections, winning 62 out of 70 seats, while the BJP secured only eight. (ANI)
