Will explore all legal options to bring Naik back to India: NIA IG

New Delhi [India] October 26 (ANI): The National Investigation Agency (NIA) on Thursday said it will explore all legal options to bring Islamic Research Foundation (IRF) president and preacher Zakir Naik back to India.

Talking to ANI, NIA Inspector General (IG) Alok Mittal said, "We will explore all legal options which are available to us to bring him (Naik) back so that he faces trial before the court."

Earlier in the day, the NIA filed chargesheet against Naik in its special court in Mumbai. The Islamic preacher faces charges of incitement of terror activities and hate speech among youth, and money laundering.

The NIA IG further told ANI that the agency had enough evidence against Naik.

"We have collected sufficient oral, documentary, technical, forensic evidence which we've placed before court," Mittal said.

On November 18 last year, the NIA's Mumbai branch registered case against Naik under various sections of the Indian Penal Code and Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act (UAPA).

The case was registered a day after the Union Home Ministry declared Naik's Mumbai based IRF as an unlawful association.

On July 1, Naik fled from India after some terrorists allegedly involved in the attack on a cafe in Dhaka reportedly claimed they were inspired by his speeches.

Naik has delivered over 1500 public lectures/talks in India and abroad. His last public lecture in India was held in Kishanganj, Bihar in March, 2012.(ANI)
