Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India], March 10 (ANI): The Budget Session of the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly commenced on Monday at 2:00 PM, with Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania presiding over the session.
Speaking to ANI, Speaker Pathania revealed that over 1000 questions had been submitted by the Members of the Legislative Assembly (MLAs) ahead of the session.
"Till now, over 1000 questions have been submitted by the MLAs. We have forwarded all the questions to their respective departments for responses. The list of questions for tomorrow has also been prepared," said Pathania.
The session began in the afternoon with the Governor's address, formally inaugurating the proceedings. The Budget Session is scheduled to continue till March 28. The Speaker expressed his confidence that the session would proceed smoothly with cooperation from both the ruling and opposition parties.
"The proceedings of the session will start at 2:00 PM every day. Tomorrow, we will start with the Question Hour, where members will seek information from the government on various issues concerning their constituencies," said Pathania.
He further informed that both parties had expressed their opinions during a party meeting held a day prior regarding the working days and the schedule of the session.
Regarding the working of the Assembly on Saturdays, Pathania said, "Both the ruling and opposition parties have suggested that if the Saturday session could be deferred, it would be more convenient for the members. The Business Advisory Committee will discuss this matter and, if both parties agree, the session on Saturdays may be rescheduled."
Pathania emphasized that the convenience of MLAs was also taken into consideration, as many members travel long distances to reach the Assembly. "The timing of the session, starting at 2:00 PM on Monday, is deliberately set so that members returning by road from their constituencies have sufficient time to reach the Assembly. If Saturday is not a working day, the same arrangement will continue," he explained.
Additionally, the Speaker mentioned that the Leader of the Opposition had requested more time to raise certain issues during the session. Pathania assured that "adequate time and opportunity will be provided to all members to raise their concerns and discuss issues important to their constituencies."
The Business Advisory Committee is expected to take a final call regarding the working days and the overall structure of the session. Meanwhile, Pathania reiterated his commitment to ensuring a smooth and cooperative legislative session.
"It is my sincere effort to conduct this session with the cooperation of both sides. I am confident that we will receive the necessary support from all members, and we will ensure that the proceedings remain productive," said Pathania.
The Budget Session, one of the most significant events of the year, is expected to witness robust discussions, budget proposals, and debates concerning the development of Himachal Pradesh. (ANI)
