Panaji (Goa) [India], September 15 (ANI): Goa Governor PS Sreedharan Pillai on Friday said that the "dispute" on Sanatan religion, triggered by Tamil Nadu minister Udhayanidhi's comment, "is wilfully made."
Speaking to ANI, Pillai said, "Sanatan means universal and cultural tradition and it should not be interpreted in any other form. It is a wilfully made dispute. I request to put the nation first".
"Sanatana Dharma is a part of Dharma. Gandhiji and all other national leaders stood for Dharma. Bheeshma once said if there is Dharma, there is no need for a king. Through Dharma, we can create the society", he added.
Recently, Tamil Nadu minister Udhaynidhi Stalin while speaking at a public event in Chennai called for the "eradication of the Sanatan" and equated the Sanatan Dharma with diseases like Dengue and Malaria. His comments led to a massive uproar across the nation with several BJP leaders slamming Stalin and demanding an apology from him.
Earlier on Thursday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi launched a scathing attack on the Indian National Developmental Inclusive Alliance in poll-bound Chhattisgarh, stating that the INDIA bloc has a hidden agenda to end the Sanatan religion.
Notably, the Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (DMK) is a partner in the INDIA alliance, formed to take on the BJP in the Lok Sabha polls in 2024.
Union Minister Anurag Thakur also launched an attack on the Congress party while addressing a public rally in Rajasthan. He said that the Congress wants to end the Sanatan religion. (ANI)
