Widespread flooding in Krishna district in AP, yellow alert issued in Adilabad: Hyderabad Meteorological Centre

Hyderabad (Telangana) [India], September 3 (ANI): Hyderabad Meteorological Centre Scientist A Sravani said that Krishna district in Andhra Pradesh received a staggering 27 cm of rainfall, resulting in widespread flooding and a yellow alert was issued for Adilabad in Telangana.
A Sravani said, "A low-pressure system formed over the Bay of Bengal on August 30, which intensified into a well-marked low-pressure area by August 31. It crossed as a depression on 31st midnight, bringing widespread heavy rainfall and wind to Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Krishna district in Andhra Pradesh received a staggering 27 cm of rainfall, resulting in widespread flooding and inundation."
She further said that the depression in Telangana state while crossing has given a good amount of rainfall.
"An exceptional heavy rainfall of 40 cm has been received in Mahabubabad District as well as Thirumalayapalem, which has received 24 to 27 mm of rainfall. 25 places received extremely heavy rainfall. 126 places has received heavy rainfall and 30 places have received very heavy rainfall. Due to extremely heavy rainfall Khammam, Suryapet and Mahabubabad District have flooded. Now the depression has been situated in the east of Vidarbha near the Chandrapur district and it might weaken in the next 12 hours," she added.
She further added that the north belt of Telangana might get a good amount of rainfall, especially in Adilabad, where a yellow alert has been issued.
Earlier, the Telangana government released an assessment report on the damages caused by heavy rains and floods in the state recently. Based on initial estimates, the total loss is Rs 5438 crore, as per the report released by the Telangana CMO on Monday.
The losses have been estimated as -- Roads and Building Department -Rs 2,362 crore. Energy Department (damage to electrical installation) Rs 175 crore, crop loss (in 415000 acres) - Rs 415 crore, irrigation (repair to minor tanks) - Rs 629 crore.
Further, the Panchayati Raj & Rural Development suffered a loss of Rs 170 crore, the Medical and Health Department- of Rs 12 crore, the Animal Husbandry Department suffered a loss of Rs 25 crore, the Municipal Administration suffered a loss of Rs 1150 crore and damages of public properties estimated up to Rs 500 crore, as per the report.
110 relief camps were organized and more than 4000 people were shifted to these camps safely, the government report said. (ANI)
