Thiruvananthapuram (Kerala) [India], March 29 (ANI): Communist Party of India (CPI) MP Binoy Viswam on Thursday hit out at the Congress party for fielding Rahul Gandhi in the Wayanad constituency to contest against its INDIA ally.
Clearing air over Rahul Gandhi contesting as a member of INDIA alliance from Wayanad, Viswam said, "Somebody said, Rahul Gandhi is a candidate of INDIA alliance. I was astonished to see that. In no meeting of INDIA alliance, the candidature of Wayanad was ever discussed. It is very clear from the beginning that the fight in Kerala will be LDF Vs UDF".
"In Kerala, nobody is contesting as a candidate of the INDIA alliance, that is the political reality of Kerala," he said.
Hitting out at the Congress party, over Rahul Gandhi contesting from Wayanad, the CPI leader said that certain individuals around Rahul Gandhi are urging him to fight against the Left in Kerala.
"Rahul Gandhi is a respectable man, I have personal regard for him. Certain people around him are pushing him to contest against the left in Kerala. When they compel him to fight from Wayanad, they should answer two questions. What is the main, focal point of this battle? The North India which has 200 plus constituencies or Kerala, which has only 20 seats in Lok Sabha. Who is the main enemy of Congress? RSS, BJP or their partner in the India alliance? The Left?"
"They feel that Kerala is the focal point of this battle, which has only 20 seats. They forget to see the heartland of India which has 200 plus seats," the leader added.
"Rahul Gandhi will be forced to answer by the people that how many times he visited Wayanad? What steps has he taken for the people of Wayanad to save them from their grievances and sorrows?", Viswam said.
The Congress party, earlier this month, released its first list of 39 candidates. Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal informed that senior party leader Rahul Gandhi will again contest from the Wayanad constituency, the seat won by him in 2019 against CPI leader P.P Suneer.
The 2024 Lok Sabha battle in Wayanad will be witnessed between Congress leader Rahul Gandhi and CPI leader Annie Raja. (ANI)
