New Delhi [India], July 25 (ANI): Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju and MoS Arjun Ram Meghwal met with the Leader of Opposition (LoP) in Lok Sabha, Rahul Gandhi, and Rajya Sabha LoP Mallikarjun Kharge amid the ruckus in the Parliament by the Opposition, BJP MP Jagadambika Pal said on Friday.
BJP MP Jagadambika Pal stated that the meeting was convened to break the deadlock and enable the Houses to function.
Jagadambika Pal told ANI, "Parliamentary Affairs Minister Kiren Rijiju and MoS Arjun Ram Meghwal have held a meeting with LoP Rahul Gandhi, and today they met Rajya Sabha LoP Mallikarjun Kharge to bring an end to the deadlock and the house to function properly."
The BJP MP stated that the ruckus in the Parliament is "extremely worrying"
"What happened in the Parliament today is extremely worrying. The Speaker himself appealed to the opposition to not disturb the Question Hour and let the House proceed... When the Speaker is the custodian of the House and he repeatedly assured the opposition, they still didn't let the House function for one whole week," Pal said.
He further told ANI that 17 Bills are to be passed in the Monsoon Session
"17 bills need to be passed, for which the Business Advisory Committee has allotted time," he said.
Pal slammed the INDIA bloc for taking up the issue of the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) in poll-bound Bihar and said that only Indian citizens have the right to vote.
"When the government and the Speaker are ready for any and all kinds of discussions, they are taking up this issue of SIR on purpose... If they are fighting for the illegal Bangladeshi, Rohingya, and Nepali immigrants, they will not remain voters. Only Indian citizens have the right to choose the government in India," the BJP MP added.
Jagadambika Pal's remarks come after Rajya Sabha was adjourned till July 28 while the Lok Sabha was adjourned till 2 PM today amid sloganeering by the Opposition.
Proceedings of the Rajya Sabha were adjourned amid continuous sloganeering by Opposition MPs, while Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan was responding to a question.
BJP MP Ghanshyam Tiwari, who was in the chair, announced the adjournment as protests intensified.
Earlier today, Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla adjourned the proceedings of the lower house until 2 PM on Friday amid sloganeering by Opposition members.
"There's a way to register a protest. If you don't want to run the Parliament...the house is adjourned till 2:00 PM today," Birla said while addressing the lower house.
This comes after the opposition leaders entered the well of the Lok Sabha while holding placards.
Before adjourning, the Speaker urged the opposition members to allow the lower house to function normally. He objected to opposition members displaying banners. He said the stalemate is not good.
"Come, there will be a discussion to end the stalemate. There will also be representatives from the government...If there is disagreement, it should be expressed as per house norms," Birla said. (ANI)
