West Bengal: Tiger spotted in Lalgarh forest

Midnapore (West Bengal) [India], Mar. 03 (ANI): A Royal Bengal tiger was captured on remotely activated camera trap in Lalgarh forest in Bengal's West Midnapore district.

West Bengal: Tiger spotted in Lalgarh forest

Midnapore (West Bengal) [India], Mar. 03 (ANI): A Royal Bengal tiger was captured on remotely activated camera trap in Lalgarh forest in Bengal's West Midnapore district.

"After due consultations we had set up seven cameras in Lalgarh forest area. Yesterday, in one of the trap cameras four photos of a tiger were taken, it has been confirmed that it is a full grown male tiger," said Forest Officer, Midnapore Division, Rabindranath Saha.

"Area residents have been complaining of regularly missing cattle and that their pet animals were being attacked by some unknown animal. After that a camera trap was laid," Saha added.

According to media reports, forest officials have been going around in vehicles informing about the tiger being spotted and have also asked villagers to be cautious.

There are 26 tigers at Simlipal, the nearest tiger reserve, about 130 km away from Lalgarh, states the last census. (ANI)
