West Bengal: DRI arrests three with 26 kg gold in Siliguri

Communist Party of India (Marxist) MLA Kadakampally Surendran on Thursday refuted claims of the complaint made by Unnikrishnan Potti, Sabarimala Ayyappa Temple gold theft case prime accused, stating Surendran conspired with a woman to file a complaint before the Special Investigation Team (SIT). He said that the complaint is a result of a conspiracy running against him in view of the upcoming Assembly elections.

"It is an insult to women, the tribal community, and the Constitution, with the West Bengal government responsible for it. Strict action should be taken, including suspension and departmental proceedings, against central cadre officers such as the Chief Secretary, the Director General of Police, the Commissioner of Police in Siliguri, and the District Magistrate of Darjeeling," Adhikari said.

Telangana Scheduled Tribes Morcha on Sunday staged a protest against West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, burning her effigy over Protocol lapses during Indian President Droupadi Murmu's Bengal tour on Saturday.

Union Minister Jitan Ram Manjhi hit out at West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee over the controversy surrounding arrangements during President Droupadi Murmu's visit to the International Santal Conference in Siliguri, alleging that the incident amounted to an insult to the highest constitutional office.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Saturday said that there was no protocol lapse during the recent visit of Droupadi Murmu to Siliguri for the 9th International Adivasi Santal Conference, adding that the event was organised by a private body.
