West Bengal CM Mamata Banerjee condoles lives lost in thunderstorms in the state

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed her condolences to the bereaved families of the 12 citizens of the state who lost their lives owing to thunderstorms and lightning in Purba Burdwan, Paschim Medinipur and Purulia on Monday night.

Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], May 7 (ANI): West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee expressed her condolences to the bereaved families of the 12 citizens of the state who lost their lives owing to thunderstorms and lightning in Purba Burdwan, Paschim Medinipur and Purulia on Monday night.
Taking to X CM Mamata Banerjee shared, "Profoundly sad to know that 9 persons died due to thunderstorms and lightning last night (5 in Purba Burdwan, 2 each in Paschim Medinipur and Purulia), while 2 more persons died due to wall collapses in Nadia and 1 more due to tree collapse in South 24 Parganas."
She further said that the district administration is taking action to provide relief and ex gratia as per guidelines.
"Our district administration everywhere has been working on disaster management mode round the clock and is taking actions to provide relief and ex gratia as per guidelines. My sincere condolences to the bereaved families of the 12 fellow citizens of Bengal," she further shared.
On Monday two youths died due to lightning in Purulia.
Four youths Priya Ranjan Kumar (23), Rahul Kumar (25), Suresh Kumar (24) and Yudhishthir Kumar (28) took shelter under a tree on the banks of a pond in the Arsa police station area when the lightning struck.
Doctors declared Priyaranjan Kumar and Rahul Kumar brought dead. The other two seriously injured youths were brought by the Arsa police station officials to a Government Medical College Hospital in Purulia.
In another incident, two people died in lightning incidents at two different places in East Bardhaman district. According to the information, a 49-year-old woman named Unnati Manjhi died in a thunderstorm that occurred on Monday night in the Kamal Bagdi Pada area of Katwa district.
In the third incident, an 11-year-old girl died due to lightning in Palita village of Ketugram in Purba Burdwan. The name of the deceased girl is said to be Sushmita Soren.
