West Bengal: BSF arrests smuggler with gold worth over Rs 83 lakh

North 24 Parganas (West Bengal) [India], September 11 (ANI): During an anti-smuggling operation on Wednesday, BSF arrested an Indian national with 10 gold biscuits, weighing about 1166.460 grams, valued at over Rs 83 lakh.
The jawans of Border Outpost Haridaspur, 5th Battalion acting on the information received from the Intelligence Department of BSF launched a well-organised operation, a release said.
BSF intelligence department shared detailed information with the commander, resulting in the identification of the suspect and his apprehension at Bangaon Railway Station at around 0650 am. The arrested smuggler has been identified as resident og Bangaon, Bhawanipur, North 24 Parganas.
During interrogation, the smuggler revealed that he was working as a carrier for Bangaon resident (unknown) near the Veterinary Hospital on Chakda Road. The smuggler was promised Rs 100 per gold biscuit for successfully transporting the gold from Bangaon to Kolkata.
On 9th September 2024, 10 gold biscuits were received from an unknown person from Bangaon Bata More and were instructed to deliver them to an unknown person at Sealdah. On 10th September at 0605 am, while he was moving towards Bangaon Railway Station with gold biscuits, BSF jawans apprehended him with gold biscuits.
The arrested smuggler, along with the seized gold biscuits has been handed over to the Customs Office at Petrapole for further legal action. (ANI)
