Wayanad (Kerala) [India], November 6 (ANI): Congress General Secretary KC Venugopal on Wednesday warned of legal action over alleged police searches in the rooms of female Congress leaders in Kerala's Palakkad and called it a 'drama'.
Congress General Secretary while speaking to media persons said that it is a 'drama scripted' by BJP leadership and 'directed' by Kerala Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan.
"It is a drama scripted by BJP leadership and directed by CM Pinarayi Vijayan. Two of our important women leaders' bedrooms had been searched at midnight. Who gave the order to search the bedroom of two important women leaders? Both of them are well-known female leaders of the Kerala society," KC Venugopal said.
"This is a clear drama. We will take all legal steps to protect our women leaders. If it is a routine checkup, why not a female police constable presents there?... We are going to protest and take legal action also," the senior Congress leader added.
This came after Congress alleged that police officers entered the rooms of the party's women leaders on Monday night for a search in Palakkad.
According to congress leader Bindu Krishna, police knocked at her room at around Tuesday midnight and asked to examine the room. Her husband and Congress leader Krishnakumar was with her and they were permitted to search the room.
Police also knocked the room of congress leader and former MLA Shanimol Usman and she asked the presence of a women police officer to search her room.
Congress alleged that this incident implied a relationship between CPIM and BJP, claiming that the workers of CPIM and BJP reached the hotel immediately after police came to the spot. In response, CPIM alleged that Congress brought in money to be used for the election.
Leader of opposition in Kerala assembly and Congress Leader V D Satheesan said "Yesterday's police search in the rooms of congresswomen leaders was part of a conspiracy between CPIM and BJP. Police insulted women leaders."
He demanded the resignation of Minister MB Rajesh, alleging his involvement in the conspiracy. (ANI)
