Bhubaneswar (Odisha) [India], April 14 (ANI): Congress leader Mohan Hembram, who was named the party's candidate from Odisha's Keonjhar constituency for the Lok Sabha elections, thanked the party on Sunday.
Speaking to ANI, Mohan Hembram said, "I thank the party leadership... there has not been as much development as there should have been... We will go to the people with Congress guarantees."
"The party will seek votes based on its manifesto, which gives several guarantees to the people. He also said that Odisha under BJD's rule has not as developed as it should have been," Hembram further said.
He said, "The government has collected a lot of tax revenue from our district... but because of lack of development, many people have to migrate outside for employment."
Talking about Congress guarantees, he said that the Congress party has a history of delivering its promises within a day.
"Wherever Congress came to power, the party has fulfilled its promises within 24 hours. If he wins in the upcoming elections, his main focus will be on education and agriculture," the Congress leader said.
Hitting out the BJD government, he said, "The BJD government only built buildings for schools and hospitals. There are no doctors or teachers in these institutions."
On April 5, the Congress released its manifesto for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections, with a focus on the five 'pillars of justice'. In its manifesto, the party focused on the implementation of a 10 per cent reservation in jobs and educational institutions for EWS for all castes and communities, employment opportunities, among others.
The 'Paanch Nyay' or five pillars of justice in the Congress manifesto included the 'Yuva Nyay', 'Naari Nyay', 'Kisaan Nyay', 'Shramik Nyay' and 'Hissedari Nyay'.
Odisha has 21 Lok Sabha constituencies, out of which 13 are unreserved and the rest are reserved for SC and ST categories.
Lok Sabha elections in Odisha will take place in four phases on May 13, May 20, May 25 and June 1.
The counting of votes will be scheduled for June 4. (ANI)
