Raipur (Chhattisgarh) [India], August 25 (ANI): Union Home Minister Amit Shah inaugurated the zonal office of the Narcotics Control Bureau in Raipur on Sunday.
During Shah's visit to the state, Chhattisgarh Assembly Speaker Raman Singh stated that after discussions with Shah, all efforts have been fruitful, and the goal of making Chhattisgarh free from Naxalism and narcotics will be achieved.
Speaking to ANI, Singh said, "I met him today and we had discussions this morning. He was very pleased with the action plan, and his three-day visit here appears to have been successful. Under Amit Shah's leadership, we will achieve our primary objective of eradicating Naxalism and the narcotics issue in Chhattisgarh."
Earlier today, while speaking at the inauguration, Shah said, "It is the responsibility of all of us to adopt a zero-tolerance approach and make the country free from narcotics and drugs, fulfilling the Prime Minister's vision. I am confident that this zonal office of the Narcotics Control Bureau will play a crucial role in narcotics control. We have set a target to establish a Narcotics Control Bureau office in every state in the country."
He also highlighted that the trend of drug trafficking in the country is changing.
"Drug smugglers are shifting from natural drugs to synthetic drugs, which, despite being produced in smaller quantities, cause the most harm and are the most expensive. Chhattisgarh shares borders with seven states and is close to the Bay of Bengal. The coastlines of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh create a route for drug trafficking, with marijuana (ganja) being smuggled through the borders of Andhra Pradesh and Odisha," he said.
The Home Minister also mentioned that the usage of ganja in Chhattisgarh is 4.98 per cent, significantly higher than the national average of 2.83 per cent. (ANI)
