"We should learn from tribal communities how to live in harmony with nature": President Murmu

New Delhi [India], November 3 (ANI): President Droupadi Murmu on Friday said that one can learn from tribal communities about living in harmony with nature adding that the life values of the tribal communities should be adopted not only for environmental protection but also for the preservation of humanity.
Addressing a National-Level Art Exhibition in New Delhi, President Murmu said, "In view of the grave problem of climate change, a holistic and collective effort is needed. Not only for environmental protection but also for the preservation of the existence of humanity. We have to adopt the life values of the tribal communities. We have to learn from them how a prosperous and happy life is possible while living in harmony with nature."
President Murmu further stated that the Union Government is committed to ensuring the overall development of the tribal communities through its policies.
"For the overall and proper development of tribal communities and tribal areas across the country, "Pradhan Mantri Vanbandhu Kalyan Yojana" is implemented with a focus on livelihood and capacity building along with education. This shows the commitment of the government towards the tribal society and its development," the President said.
She further stated that climate change has raised concerns about food and water security.
"We are battling a grave crisis where the time is not on our side. In this race against time, what we need is concerted action guided by knowledge and wisdom," she said.
Emphasizing the promotion of indigenous knowledge in the preservation of the environment, President Murmu said, "At the same time, we have to make sure that the vanguards of the forest force and its ablest sons and daughters are not deprived of their rights, rightful place and recognition in society."
The President also called out the society and government to play a role in the preservation of biodiversity in the country.
"A large number of tigers are found in many Tiger Reserves from Corbett, Sundarbans and Kaziranga to Sathyamangalam and Mudumalai. Similipal Tiger Reserve, located in my district in Odisha, also has a good number of tigers. Both society and government have to work together to conserve and promote the rich biodiversity and forest wealth available in places like Simlipal," President Murmu said. (ANI)
