New Delhi [India], December 13 (ANI): Japan's Vice Minister for Policy Coordination, Ministry of External Affairs and Communications, Hiroshi Yoshida, on Wednesday called for a safe, secure and resilient Artificial Intelligence ecosystem and sought India's active participation in this regard.
"AI is a very important issue all over the world and it is changing our lives and society, and we need to work on AI risk mitigation...GPAI is very important and we also discussed in G7 and made a guiding principle for all AI actors regarding AI through the Hiroshima AI process," Yoshida said while speaking to ANI.
He emphasized the importance of responsible AI and Prime Minister Narendra Modi's enthusiasm for AI policy, urging India's active involvement.
"AI has a great possibility, but it should be responsible AI. And we need safe, secure and resilient AI. Prime Minister Modi expressed his energy regarding AI policy and so India is an advanced country in technology and this field. So we need India's active participation in discussion in the AI area as well," he said.
UK's Minister of AI and Intellectual Property, Jonathan Camrose, while speaking to ANI, noted AI's potential for human prosperity but stressed the need for safety.
"To make so much possible for all of us, particularly in India, I see so many fascinating use cases, but to get there, it has to be safe," said Camrose, emphasizing extensive collaboration with India and other countries.
"And that's where we're collaborating very extensively across with India, with Europe and all the countries of the world," the UK minister further noted.
The Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence summit, hosted in the national capital from December 12 to 14, brings together influential minds to discuss and collaborate on AI advancement.
Since its inception in June 2020, India has actively contributed to the Summit, fostering open, safe, secure, and accountable AI development.
The Global Partnership on Artificial Intelligence is an international initiative established to guide the responsible development and use of artificial intelligence in a manner that respects human rights and the shared democratic values of its members.
Union Minister of State for Information Technology Rajeev Chandrasekhar, after meeting UK's Minister of AI and Intellectual Property Viscount Camrose and Japan's Vice Minister Hiroshi Yoshida, highlighted discussions on regulating AI, safety, trust issues, and the government's role in enabling AI growth.
"So I think it was a very interesting conversation. And what India has been saying, for now, several months and years about making sure that the Internet and indeed every emerging technology is deployed in a safe and trusted manner is a thought that most countries are now coming around to and agreeing with," Rajeev Chandrasekhar told the reporters.
