Guwahati (Assam) [India], September 9 (ANI): Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday said that BJP's membership drive in the state has been successful so far as 13 lakh people have joined the party within a week.
CM Sarma further informed that the BJP membership drive will continue till September 25.
"Within a week we have touched 13 lakh party membership and Assam has been able to take the position among the top five states of the country. This membership drive will be continued till September 25. Today I visited the BJP state office to take the status report of the membership drive in Guwahati city and also discussed," CM Sarma said.
CM Sarma, on Congress' Extended Executive meeting, said, "My blessings and best wishes to them. All parties should step in and there is no objection."
Congress held an extended executive meeting in Assam to discuss their strategy for the next Assam assembly elections.
Congress MP Gaurav Gogoi informed about the meeting yesterday, "the Congress party is going to have an important meeting of Extended Executive PCC. We will discuss issues like our strategy concerning the Assembly election and the widespread corruption in the current BJP government," Gogoi said.
CM Sarma, on Ripun Bora joining Congress, said, "He (Ripun Bora) came to TMC and again went to Congress. There is no reason to drag BJP here."
Former TMC leader Ripun Bora on Sunday joined Congress in Assam's Charaideo. Bora stated that the Congress is his old home and he has returned to his house now.
"Congress is my old home and today I have returned to my home. I was in TMC for two years. The kind of environment that is there in Assam and the entire country, the need of the hour is to unite against the corrupt, fascist and anti-people BJP to uproot the BJP from Assam to make it liveable. Hence, along with 36 office bearers of the Assam state committee (TMC), I have joined Congress to strengthen it," said Ripun Bora. (ANI)
