Dibrugarh (Assam) [India], June 16 (ANI): Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma on Sunday took a firm stance against anti-national activities in Dhubri, stating that a mere warning won't suffice to curb these actions.
This comes after seditious messages were reportedly found written on walls in the area, hinting at a deep-rooted conspiracy.
Speaking to reporters in Dibrugarh, CM Sarma said, "We have already taken action. Assam is a sensitive state. People won't stop anti-national activities just because of my warning. This is a deep-rooted conspiracy... A mere warning won't be enough -- we have to put in a lot of hard work to counter this."
The situation in Dhubri has been tense following an incident where cow meat was allegedly thrown at a Hanuman temple on Eid, sparking communal outrage. CM Sarma has deployed additional security forces, including the Rapid Action Force (RAF) and CRPF, and authorised shoot-at-sight orders for criminal elements to maintain law and order.
Apart from this, CM Sarma has said that five people have been arrested for allegedly throwing beef near a temple in Assam's Goalpara district.
In a post on X, CM Sarma said that Lakhipur Police arrested the five accused for attempting to "incite communal tension."
"Lakhipur Police of Goalpara District has arrested the following individuals for allegedly throwing beef near a temple in a deliberate attempt to incite communal tension post Eid-ul-Zuha: 1. Bodir Ali (57), S/o Late Jabber Ali 2. Hazaratt Ali (58), S/o Riaj Uddin 3. Tara Mia (36), S/o Rupchand Ali 4. Shajamal Mia (42), S/o Late Hazarat Ali 5. Jahangir Alom (32), S/o Late Amor Ali (All residents of Ward No. 10, Khakilamari, P.S. Lakhipur)," CM Sarma wrote in his post. "A case has been registered and strict action is being taken to ensure all such elements face the full force of the law," he added.
CM Sarma emphasised that the government will not tolerate any attempts to disrupt peace and harmony in the region. He also accused a Bangladesh-backed organisation of stoking communal tensions in Dhubri.
So far, 38 arrests have been made concerning the beef incident. The CM has assured that strict action will be taken against those involved in destabilising the region.
"38 arrested overnight in the Dhubri beef head incident," posted the Assam CM on X.
On Friday, CM visited the Dhubri district and directed law enforcement officers to have zero tolerance for those who desecrate temples, Naamghars, and sacred spaces. (ANI)
