"We formed SIT, tracked down accused in Meerut": DCP after man dragged by car killed in Delhi

After a video of a man being dragged by a car in the Mahipalpur area went viral, Delhi Police on Thursday clarified that the two persons arrested in the case are involved in several cases registered in the national capital and neighbouring Uttar Pradesh.

New Delhi [India], October 12 (ANI): After a video of a man being dragged by a car in the Mahipalpur area went viral, Delhi Police on Thursday clarified that the two persons arrested in the case are involved in several cases registered in the national capital and neighbouring Uttar Pradesh.
Speaking to ANI on Thursday, Manoj C, DCP, South West, said, "On October 10, around 11.30 pm, a PCR call was received at Vasant Kunj police station that a person had been found dead on the service road on NH-8. We went there with our local team and the crime team. Upon investigation, the deceased was identified as Bijendra (43), a resident of Faridabad."
"After examining a video clip of the incidnt that went viral, we checked the number plate of a taxi seen in it and found that the vehicle was registered in the name of the deceased, Bijendra. We then arrived at a conclusion that it was cognizable offence and booked the accused for murder," the DCP added.
He informed further that an SIT team was formed to probe the matter and upon further investigation, the sleuths learned that the accused were in hiding in UP's Meerut district.
"We formed a SIT team comprising 5 inspectors. Their mandate was to find out every detail related to the deceased. On further investigation, we learned that the accused were in Meerut and they were arrested with the help of UP police. They were identified as Asif, aged 24 years, and Mehraj Salmani, aged 33. Asif is involved in 7 cases in UP and 2 in Delhi while Mehraj is complicit in 4 cases in UP and 2 in Delhi," DCP, South West said.
Police further said that after studying their previous cases, it was learned that their motive was to loot the car. (ANI)
