Shimla (Himachal Pradesh) [India], December 10 (ANI): Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu on Tuesday alleged that the previous BJP government had left the economy in doldrums and asserted that the Congress government brought it back on track and has a vision of making Himachal the richest state in the country by 2032.
Sukhu told ANI that his government brought policy changes to boost the state's economy.
"When I took the oath as Chief Minister, there was no money to run the state even for a month, and our economy was not in good shape. Officials informed me that the state treasury was empty...We made significant policy changes. We changed around 100 rules and laws. Today, we have brought the economy back on track," he said.
The Congress government in Himachal Pradesh is completing two years in office and a programme is being held at Bilaspur on December 11 to mark the occasion.
The Chief Minister will launch six new schemes at the event.
Sukhu said he is glad to see the transformation in the economy.
He criticized the BJP for attempting to "destabilize democratically elected governments" including Congress government in Himachal Pradesh.
"The BJP constantly tries to topple democratically elected governments. In our state, nine of our MLAs resigned, leading to by-elections...I believe this hurt the BJP's image," he said.
He said BJP state unit was divided. "The BJP is not protesting (against his government), it is fragmented into five groups. Each faction is trying to prove its superiority within the party, fighting an internal battle for survival," he alleged.
The Chief Minister elaborated on his government's vision for a sustainable future, focusing on green development.
"We are working towards making Himachal Pradesh a Green State by March 31, 2026. Our cabinet is committed to this vision," he said, adding that the state government has signed MoUs with five companies, including Reliance, to develop green corridors.
"We have mobilized resources worth approximately Rs 2500 crore. In the last two years, we have created 31,000 government jobs, compared to the 20,000 created by BJP in five years," he added.
Sukhu also emphasized his government's long-term goals.
"Our aim is to make Himachal Pradesh self-reliant by 2027, and by 2032, we aim to make it the richest state in the country," he said. (ANI)
