WB: Bangiyo Hindu Jagran, Hindu groups protest in Kolkata against Dipu Das lynching in Bangladesh; police resort to lathi charge

Kolkata (West Bengal) [India], December 23 (ANI): Members of Bangiyo Hindu Jagran and several other Hindu organisations staged a protest on Tuesday near the Deputy High Commission of Bangladesh in Kolkata over alleged atrocities against Hindus in Bangladesh and the recent mob lynching and killing of Dipu Chandra Das.
According to the police, the protestors had planned to submit a deputation to the Bangladesh Deputy High Commission. However, the situation escalated after a large number of demonstrators gathered near the premises, leading to tensions in the area. To prevent a breach of law and order, police resorted to a lathi charge to disperse the crowd, officials said.
In a separate protest, members of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) were detained by police in Mumbai while they were demonstrating against the same issue.
Meanwhile, several protests were staged against the violence against minorities in Bangladesh across India, including New Delhi, Madhya Pradesh and Hyderabad.
Earlier today, police detained protesting members of the VHP (Vishva Hindu Parishad) and other Hindu organisations near the Bangladesh High Commission in the national capital on Tuesday. A swarm of demonstrators gathered near the Bangladesh High Commission to protest against the violence against Hindus in Bangladesh.
After the protesters clashed with the heavy security deployed at the scene, the situation became chaotic. They pushed the barricades and tried to enter the building. Police took action to control the angry crowd and detained the protesting members from the Hindu organisations. The crowd chanted "Jai Shree Ram" as the police put them inside a bus.
Sentiments against the Bangladesh Interim government exploded as the figures of Muhammad Yunus and the country's flag were burned, and slogans against the Bangladesh government were heard all around.
In Hyderabad, several Hindu organisations led by the Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) protested in Kothapet on Tuesday to condemn the ongoing violence against minorities in Bangladesh. Vishva Hindu Parishad representatives said they are prepared to escalate their protests if no concrete steps are taken soon.
During the protest, leaders also raised concerns about the local presence of illegal immigrants, warning of further agitation if the state government fails to address the security risks posed by infiltrators.
Shashidhar, Vishva Hindu Parishad (VHP) National spokesperson, said, "Atrocities are being done against Hindus in Bangladesh. The government of India should take strict action for the protection of Hindus in Bangladesh. Bangladesh infiltrators and Rohingyas in large numbers are living in Bhagya Nagar. If the state government doesn't take any action, then VHP will announce an action."
Amid the heightened tensions, Bangladesh has suspended consular and visa services in New Delhi and Agartala due to security concerns following protests
Meanwhile, the Indian High Commissioner to Bangladesh, Pranay Verma, was summoned by Bangladesh's Ministry of Foreign Affairs over the protests.
The 27-year-old Hindu youth, Dipu Chandra Das, was brutally killed in Mymensingh, again triggering international concern over the safety of minorities in Bangladesh. Das was beaten to death by a mob over alleged blasphemy, and his body was subsequently set on fire on December 18. The incident sparked widespread outrage and condemnation. (ANI)
