Wayanad landslides: Around 150 people rescued from landslide-hit Mudakkayi village

Around 150 people have been rescued from Mudakkayi village in the landslide-hit areas of Wayanad, said Indian Army officials on Tuesday.

Wayanad (Kerala) [India], July 30 (ANI): Around 150 people have been rescued from Mudakkayi village in the landslide-hit areas of Wayanad, said Indian Army officials on Tuesday.
They have been provided with medical aid and evacuated to safer places.
Indian Army has been carrying out rescue operations in landslide-hit areas of Wayanad in conjunction with the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and other agencies.
Indian Army officials informed that apart from the four columns with a total strength of approximately 225 personnel who are already deployed for the operation, two more columns having a strength of approximately 140 personnel are on standby in Thiruvananthapuram to be airlifted on short notice, in case the need arises.
The Army is setting up a Command-and-Control centre at Kozhikode for coordinating Humanitarian Assistance and Disaster Relief (HADR) efforts.
Helicopter reconnaissance of the affected area is being undertaken and damage assessment is being carried out to channelize rescue operation in the correct direction.
Additionally, the Indian Army is inducting various resources from Bangalore and Delhi, such as teams of search and rescue dogs.
Besides the aid in terms of medicines and first aid, ECHS POLYCLINC Kalpetta is extending all possible help in terms of the Service of Doctor/ Nursing assistant and Ambulance service to the flood operation columns.
As many as 108 people lost their lives while 128 were injured after massive landslides hit the hilly areas of Meppadi in Kerala's Wayanad district.
The injured individuals are receiving treatments in the nearby hospitals. (ANI)
