Dibrugarh (Assam) [India], November 3 (ANI): All India Congress Committee General Secretary Vikas Upadhyay lauded Assam Congress chief Gaurav Gogoi, asserting that he is riding a "wave" among people across the state.
Upadhyay expressed confidence in Congress' victory in the 2026 Assam elections under Gaurav Gogoi's leadership.
"There's a wave across Assam for a young leader who raised his voice in Parliament during Operation Sindoor... We have seen the intentions and sentiments of the people here... A different atmosphere prevails throughout the state today. In 2026, a Congress government will be formed here," Vikas Upadhyay told ANI.
He mentioned that the BJP could not defeat the Congress ideology in the 2024 general elections, when Gaurav Gogoi contested from Jorhat and won.
"It's a double-engine government. Big promises were made at the centre and the state. In the parliamentary elections, State Congress Committee President Gaurav Gogoi contested the Lok Sabha elections and won. The entire BJP could not defeat the Congress ideology... Today, Gaurav Gogoi has taken charge of this state as the President of the State Congress Committee," Upadhyay added.
The Congress leader also emphasised Gaurav Gogoi's wave across the state, expressing confidence in Congress' win in the 2026 state polls.
"There's a wave across Assam for a young leader who raised his voice in Parliament during Operation Sindoor... We have seen the intentions and sentiments of the people here... A different atmosphere prevails throughout the state today. In 2026, a Congress government will be formed here," Upadhyay added.
Assam will be among the five major states, including Tamil Nadu, Kerala, and West Bengal, which will go to elections in 2026.
The BJP has been able to form governments in Assam in the previous two elections successfully and now will have the challenge to once again return to power.
Earlier on November 1, Gaurav Gogoi said that Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma will "run away" to Dubai or Singapore the very next day he loses power in the state.
Speaking to reporters here, Gogoi said that the allegations levelled by the Assam CM regarding him about a Pakistani agent were "ad nauseam and fictional". He slammed Sarma for not being able to produce evidence backing his allegations.
"Himanta Biswa Sarma has been repeating ad nauseam false, baseless, and fictional allegations about me since February this year. He has many times said that he will reveal all the facts on September 10. However, he has not given a shred of evidence to back his fictional claims. Therefore, his own credibility today is zero. The chief minister has repeatedly lied and misled people of Assam," Gogoi said. (ANI)
