Jaipur (Rajasthan) [India], May 6 (ANI): The most luxurious of train experiences, the Palace of Wheels, is likely to be back on the track in about four months to offer a mesmerising experience to some of the most exotic destinations in Rajasthan apart from Taj Mahal.
The prestigious train will make its return after two years as COVID-19 situation has improved and it is time to some advance planning.
Initial meetings between Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation (RTDC) officials, national and international tour operators, hoteliers and other stakeholders have been held over the resumption of train operations.
The COVID pandemic has prevented operations of luxury train for the two years and as the situation improves Rajasthan Tourism Development Corporation (RTDC) is all geared up to get it back on the track.
"The corporation has been consistently receiving tourist enquiries regarding the commencement of the train and initial meetings with stakeholders have also received earnest responses and suggestions. The suggestions are being taken into consideration and accordingly a decision shall soon be made," said Gaytri Rathore, Principal Secretary Tourism, Government of Rajasthan.
The RTDC in association with Indian Railways has been operating the Palace on Wheels since 1982. The luxury train is inspired by the personal coaches of erstwhile rulers and offers modern facilities amid a heritage backdrop.
It starts from New Delhi and covers Jaipur, Jodhpur, Jaisalmer, Udaipur, Sawai Madhopur and Agra in Uttar Pradesh. Tickets can be booked through the IRCTC website.
Every coach has several chambers and each one is decorated with furniture and detailing in accordance with local heritage. The train's route and stoppages are also planned according to popular tourist trends. (ANI)
