New Delhi [India], July 27 (ANI): Vice President Jagdeep Dhankhar and his wife, Sudesh Dhankhar on Saturday planted saplings as part of the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign at ASITA, an ecological site along the Yamuna River in Delhi.

Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena and his wife Sangita Saxena also participated in the sapling planting exercise as part of the campaign.

'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign was launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on June 5, World Environment Day.

Under this campaign, he has urged people to plant a sapling in the upcoming days as a tribute to their mothers.

He also requested participants to share a picture of themselves planting the sapling using the hashtag “#Plant4Mother.”

"I call upon everyone, in India and around the world, to plant a tree in the coming days as a tribute to your mother. Do share a picture of you doing so using #Plant4Mother," PM said in a post on X.

Earlier this month, the Delhi Development Authority (DDA) organised a plantation drive as part of the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign at various places in the national capital under the directions of LG VK Saxena and the direct supervision of Vice Chairman Subhashish Panda.

For the financial year 2024-25, the DDA has set a plantation target of 11 lakh plants, including about 94,000 trees and 10 lakh shrubs. DDA has already achieved nearly 55 percent of this target, having planted approximately 605109 trees and shrubs so far.

About 21,552 acres of Delhi are under green cover out of which 10,490 acres belong to DDA. In 2023-24, DDA has planted more than 8.8 lakh trees and shrubs.

During FY 2024-25, till now, 50,000 trees and 5,50,000 shrubs have already been planted at various locations across the city. The authority is also taking all possible steps to ensure that the saplings being planted are nurtured sufficiently so as to achieve optimal survival. (ANI)
