Ranchi (Jharkhand) [India], October 16 (ANI): A delegation of the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) led by Jharkhand state unit vice president Chandrakant Raipat met Governor CP Radhakrishnan at the Raj Bhawan in Ranchi to demand the abolition of the Hindu Religious Trust Act.
"We want to remove the Hindu Religious Trust Act across the country. Under the present system temple management is under the government. They have formed a committee as per their own whims. We are fighting it at the court. However, our primary demand is the Hindu Religious Trust Act which is only applicable on Hindus should be removed," Chandrakant Raipat said speaking to ANI on Monday.
After meeting the Governor, Raipat said that they have handed over a memorandum addressed to the President of India to the Governor urging her to taking steps against the acts of the Dharmik Nyas Board.
He said that the Governor has given a patient hearing to them and said that whatever steps are needed to be taken in this regard will be done by the centre.
Raipat said that under the Hindu Religious Act, all state governments control temples located in their respective states by forming committees.
The VHP state president pointed out that there is no such law for any other religion. The law controlling mosques and churches was abolished after Independence in 1947, however temples continue to be governed by the state government, he said. (ANI)
