Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], August 14 (ANI): The Uttarakhand Higher Education Department signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the British High Commission and the Infosys Springboard at the Uttarakhand CM's Pushkar Singh Dhami's residence on Wednesday to establish new dimensions for higher education in the state.
The MoU was signed by the Secretary of the Higher Education Department, Shailesh Bagoli along with the Deputy High Commissioner of the British High Commission, Caroline Rowet and Santosh Ananthapura, Head of Government Partnerships for Chevening Scholarship and Infosys Springboard.
Under the Chevening Scholarship, five students studying in the state university and government colleges of the state who are eligible for the Chevening Scholarship would be sent every year to a reputed university in Britain for their postgraduate studies.
The opportunity would not only give the students of the remote areas of Uttarakhand the experience and opportunity of working as per the global standards but would also help them develop their leadership skills.
On this occasion, CM Dhami said, "The MoU of the British High Commission and the Infosys Springboard along with the Higher Education Department would establish a new dimension in the field of higher education for the state."
Additionally, it is also worth mentioning that the objective of the Chevening Uttarakhand Scholarship is to provide global opportunities to poor meritorious students of remote areas, especially girl students, and to develop leadership skills in them.
Students selected for the scholarship would be required to work for the development of Uttarakhand after studying for a year in Britain. The equal expenditure of the students would be borne by Chevening and the state government.
Further, Dhami said that a new experience would be given to the students in their higher education which would help the state in connecting with the international education system.
Additionally, Uttarakhand's government has also been running new schemes for qualitative improvement in higher education. Action plans are being worked on so that the youth does not sit idle after higher education studies.
Dhami further said that following the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, skill development training and seminars are also being organized in higher educational institutions.
He added, "Free courses in science and technology would also be run in the universities. The Higher Education Department has been playing an important role in continuously developing the human resources of the state and many efforts are being made in this direction."
The Higher Education Minister, Dhan Singh Rawat said that there were 35 universities in the state and five lakh students were pursuing higher education in the state.
The state government has been working to bring the universities of the state to the top ranking and work is being done to include the five universities of the state in the top 100 universities of the country.
Springboard Infosys will provide IT-based free training modules for teachers and free courses for students under CSR on its virtual platform. The courses for the same would be selected as per NEP and would be used as an educational course under this.
Using this, the teachers can create microsites for the students of their institution and provide specially selected content.
The latest emerging technology courses will be accessible to the students, through which continuous monitoring and student progress can be seen through the dashboard. (ANI)
