Dehradun (Uttarakhand) [India], June 2 (ANI): The Uttarakhand government has extended the tenure of administrators by three months or until the formation of the board of municipal bodies following the delay in the election process of municipal bodies.
According to the official order by the Urban Development Directorate (UDD), the government has extended the tenure of administrators for three months in Uttarakhand's Municipal Corporations, Municipal Councils and Nagar Panchayats.
As per the order, the implementation of the Model Code of Conduct for the Lok Sabha elections in the state has delayed the completion of the election process of the municipal bodies.
Given this, the tenure of administrators has been extended for three months and the formation of the boards of the municipal bodies, whichever is earlier.
Its orders have been issued on Sunday. From December last year, administrators were appointed in all the municipal bodies after the completion of their tenure.
According to the Act, these administrators can be appointed only till June 2, i.e. for six months, but the code of conduct for the Lok Sabha elections is applicable till June 6. Therefore, the municipal elections could not be held before this.
The Urban Development Directorate (UDD) is the administrative department in Uttarakhand.
It is an autonomous state government agency responsible for urban planning and development control.
Meanwhile, as voting for the 2024 Lok Sabha elections concluded on Saturday, exit polls predicted that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) will maintain its lead in Uttarakhand.
The BJP-led NDA is expected to continue its clean sweep streak in the state of Uttarakhand, a state that sends five seats to the lower house.
The voting for the 543-member Lok Sabha was held across seven phases. The counting of votes is scheduled for June 4. (ANI)
