Uttar Pradesh: Tight security arrangements put in place for counting of votes in Kanpur

As the counting of votes for Lok Sabha elections will begin on June 4, Harish Chander, Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order), Kanpur said that three-tier security arrangements have been put in place at various centres, deploying around 3,000 police personnel.

Kanpur (Uttar pradesh) [India], June 3 (ANI): As the counting of votes for Lok Sabha elections will begin on June 4, Harish Chander, Additional Commissioner of Police (Law and Order), Kanpur said that three-tier security arrangements have been put in place at various centres, deploying around 3,000 police personnel.
Speaking to ANI, Harish Chander said, "There are tight security preparations for the counting day. A three-tier arrangement has been made in which two companies of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPF) and one company of Pradeshik Armed Constabulary (PAC) have been deployed."
He further said, "Around 3000 police officials have been deployed. We have also deployed people to monitor social media."
Elaborating on the security measures taken on the result day, the top police official said, "We have informed all the candidates that no kind of victory procession will be taken out as Section 144 is in place. The candidates and people associated with them will be provided passes and after conducting thorough checking, they will be allowed to enter the premises where counting will take place."
Meanwhile, the Police Commissionerate of Kanpur took to X and informed about the various measures in place for the counting of votes.
"In accordance with the instructions of the Election Commission, 3000 police personnel along with three companies of CAPF / PAC have been deployed for security arrangements to conduct safe counting of votes in the Lok Sabha General Election-2024. A traffic advisory has been issued. A help desk has been set up at the counting place for coordination with the media. Cold drinking water and other necessary arrangements have been made for the administration, security personnel and all the people associated with the counting of votes," the Police Commissionerate said in a post on X.
The post further reads, "Section 144 is applicable in the Commissionerate, hence the ban on victory processions, demonstrations etc. continues. Social media is being monitored closely." (ANI)
