Mathura (Uttar Pradesh) [India], December 6 (ANI): Security has been heightened across Mathura in Uttar Pradesh on the 33rd anniversary of the 1992 Babri Mosque demolition.
The Krishna Janmabhoomi-Shahi Idgah Mosque in the city has been converted into a high-security zone.
According to a senior official, thorough security checks are being conducted at multiple points across the city, and the forces are on full alert to prevent any untoward incident.
Speaking to ANI, Mathura Superintendent of Police (Crime), Avnish Mishra said, "Anyone without a proper identity card and who isn't authorised to enter is constantly being checked. The force is on full alert. As in previous years, adequate force has been deployed... Constant checking is being done. All received information is being verified. Yes, traffic is still running. School children are going to school. It's completely normal. Right now, there is no traffic diversion."
Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Shlok Kumar said that flag marches are being conducted at all important locations and intensive checks are being conducted at key points.
"Our preparations for December 6th are complete. An adequate police force has been deployed, including local police, external police forces, the PAC, and the RAF. Flag marches are being conducted at all important locations. Area domination is underway. Intensive checks are being conducted at key points, along important routes, with public representatives, at hotels, inns, restaurants, bus stations, and railway stations. Vehicles are also being checked," the official told ANI.
"Random checks are being conducted... We are also monitoring social media... We have already restricted the movement of about 150 people, and any action that affects law and order is not permissible. We will ensure strict action against anyone who tries to do so," he added.
Security forces in Ayodhya and across other districts of Uttar Pradesh are also on high alert, conducting thorough vehicle and identity checks.
In Varanasi, security personnel have been deployed at Shri Kashi Vishwanath Temple on the anniversary of the Babri Masjid demolition.
The Babri Masjid was demolished on December 6, 1992, in Ayodhya by a large group of 'kar sevaks'.
In the aftermath, many Muslim residences in Ayodhya were ransacked, torched, and destroyed. Riots broke out across multiple parts of the country, leading to the deaths of over 1,000 people. (ANI)
