Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath planted a sandalwood sapling at his official residence, on World Environment Day and his birthday, on Wednesday.

Lucknow (Uttar Pradesh) [India], June 5 (ANI): Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath planted a sandalwood sapling at his official residence, on World Environment Day and his birthday, on Wednesday.
The Chief Minister also shared a message on X, saying, "Mata Bhoomi Putraham Prithviya (Mother Earth is my mother, and I am her son). I had the privilege of planting a tree in Lucknow today on World Environment Day. The Uttar Pradesh government is serving with full commitment for the protection and promotion of Mother Earth and nature."
The event was attended by Additional Chief Secretary (Chief Minister) S P Goyal, Additional Chief Secretary (Forest/Environment) Manoj Kumar Singh, Principal Secretary (Chief Minister) Sanjay Prasad, and DGP Prashant Kumar.
Earlier, Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday launched the 'Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam' campaign on World Environment Day.
Under this campaign, he has urged people to plant a sapling in the upcoming days as a tribute to their mothers.
The Prime Minister planted a peepal tree sapling at Buddha Jayanti Park in the national capital today. He was accompanied by Union Environment Minister Bhupender Yadav and Delhi's Lieutenant Governor Vinai Kumar Saxena.
He also requested participants to share a picture of themselves planting the sapling using the hashtags #Plant4Mother.
"Today, on World Environment Day, delighted to start a campaign," he posted on X.
"I call upon everyone, in India and around the world, to plant a tree in the coming days as a tribute to your mother. Do share a picture of you doing so using #Plant4Mother," PM said in a post on X. PM also highlighted the need to protect the environment and shared his tree-planting experience, encouraging others to follow suit.
World Environment Day, observed on June 5, marks the start of the 1972 Stockholm Conference on the Human Environment. This year's theme is "Land Restoration, Desertification and Drought Resilience". (ANI)
