Aligarh (Uttar Pradesh) [India], October 21 (ANI): As Israel's war on Hamas entered its 15th day, special prayers were offered and Yajna was held at Shiva Temple here by students of the Aligarh Muslim University on Saturday for world peace.
Students, faculty, and staff including BJP MLC Manvendra Pratap Singh joined the prayers for promoting unity and harmony against the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas.
Speaking to ANI about the prayers, the students of the AMU said, "We conduct Yajna and offer prayers each year on the seventh day of Navratri for world peace."
"This year also, a Yajna has been conducted for world peace. We have all performed the Havan keeping in mind the slogan that we chant during the Aarti, wishing for the welfare of the world," said Aditya Singh, a student.
BJP MLC Manvendra Pratap Singh said, "Today is the day of Kalaratri during Navratri. Today, on the occasion of Maa Kalratri, students of Aligarh Muslim University have organized a Havan for world peace."
"Terrorism should end from within the world, the ongoing situation of wars should end. Therefore, a Yajna has been performed by the students of the university and prayers have been offered for the welfare of the world," he added.
Another student, Abhishek Gupta said, "There should be peace in the world, so everyone here tried to invoke Maa Kali, Maa Durga by performing Havan Yajna during the days of Navratri. We all wish for world peace and for an end to terrorism."
Hamas launched a horrific terror attack on Israel on October 7 which resulted in over 1400 deaths and over 3000 injuries.
In response, Israel launched a strong counter-offensive attacking several Hamas terror units in the Gaza Strip. At least 4,385 Palestinians have been killed in Israeli strikes on Gaza.
Earlier in the day, the Rafah border crossing was opened for a short window on Saturday morning to let 20 aid trucks enter Gaza from Egypt. (ANI)
