UP: Waterlogging due to heavy rainfall causes crop damage in Moradabad

Heavy rains in Moradabad have led to flood like situations today. The public has been facing issues like water logging and farmers facing severe crop damage.

Moradabad (Uttar Pradesh) [India], July 12 (ANI): Severe waterlogging in Moradabad district in Uttar Pradesh following heavy rainfall over the past several days has resulted in crop damage in the area, according to locals.
Sunil Kumar, a local of one of the villages of the district Moradabad said, "Water logging has led to the roads in the village being closed and the routes to go to all the nearby villages have also been shut. It has been causing a lot of difficulty in getting our food and other resources."
Further, he said, "Villagers are not able to go out anywhere. The water is going to rise for the next three months, and the situation is going to become more difficult.
Another villager said that people are falling sick due to the waterlogging. She said, "People are falling sick because of the rain and due to excessive water logging, the doctors are not able to reach here. Children are not able to go to school, and the situation is getting very difficult. The crops of the farmers are also spoiling now. "
Kumar, a farmer whose crops have been spoilt because of the rain and has led to financial problems for him, said, "The crops are getting spoilt a lot. We aren't able to earn because of the destruction of the crops. All the crops in the nearby villages have also got spoiled. People from the government sometimes come to check the situation but due to the excessive rains, they are not able to do anything as well. "
Anuj Kumar, District Magistrate, Moradabad said teams have been taking necessary action and assisting the people. He also said that medical kits are being provided to the people to avoid the risk of waterborne diseases. "Two main rivers the Ram Ganga and Kosi rivers here get flooded during heavy rains. The teams are taking necessary action to provide help to people. If necessary, we will rescue the people. We are also providing medical kits to people to avoid water-borne diseases."
Further, he said "If a lot of other crops are damaged, we will provide the people with necessary funds with the help of the government."
The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast more rainfall in North and North- East India including East Uttar Pradesh and other parts of the country over the next few days. (ANI)
